The 500 block of Main Street is coming to life on August 1st and 2nd with the annual ChalkFest Buffalo! With heroes and villains splashed across the pavement of the up-and-coming block, you can’t stop by and not be impressed with the artwork. The event is taking place right outside VIPTIX and is drawing much attention to the businesses and art on the block as a whole. ChalkFest Buffalo! brings in artists from all over the country to complete in a chalk drawing contest. You do not have to be a professional artist to participate in this event. Both kids and adults are welcome to grab some chalk and let their inner imagination flow out. ChalkFest Buffalo! not only provides a variety of activities for adults and children but also gives local artists the chance to win cash prizes and show off their gallery worthy artwork. A children’s storybook is illustrated along the sidewalk and once completed gets narrated to the surrounding children. Live music, dancers, face painters, balloon hats and street performers entertain festivalgoers throughout the day. Food trucks, food vendors and merchants also offer plenty of other delights to fill the senses. World-renowned 3-D chalk artist, Michael Macaulay, will be joining us for a 4th year and continues to amaze visitors with his realistic artwork.
In an effort to give back each year, ChalkFest Buffalo! chooses a local organization geared toward children and proceeds from all vendor fees and t-shirt sales are donated to that group. This year’s beneficiary is Explore & More Childrens Museum, which provides an environment for creative play and learning through hands-on exhibits, activities and programs that spark creativity, curiosity and imagination in children. If you are looking for something exciting to do this weekend and would like to support a good cause, come out and celebrate this wonderful event!
