Artist in the VIP Spotlight: Lizzo

When you think pop music of the late 2010s and early 2020’s, it is impossible for Lizzo to not come to mind. Although she has been making music for years, she skyrocketed in popularity with her hits “Good As Hell,” “Truth Hurts,” and “Juice” in the late 2010s. In the beginning of her career, she struggled to get noticed and almost quit music after releasing “Truth Hurts” in 2017. Lizzo had considered this track to be the best she had ever written and fell into a dark place after its release with very little success. It was not until 2019 when the social media platform “Tik Tok” got a hold of the track that her success really began to rise.

As she grew in popularity, she started to use her platform to inspire body positivity, especially in the black community. She both sang and spoke about loving yourself while making diversity the focus of her music, in regards to one’s body, sexuality, race, and more. Highlighting body inclusivity and celebrating individuality, Lizzo appeared in ModCloth‘s “Say It Louder” campaign, which focuses on the idea of “you being you” and self love. In the same month, she sported the first plus-size outfit made for FIT‘s Future of Fashion runway show by Grace Insogna for her performance at NYC Pride‘s Pride Island event. Lizzo continues to support these causes and calls for other women to do the same. She also recently spoke out in support of the Black Lives Matter Campaign and was quoted saying “I’ve never seen anything like this…. I’m actually hopeful.”

Lizzo is an inspiration to all of us and will continue to make a positive change in the world!

Black Lives Matter

As the craziness of the past few months begins to die down, we are learning the importance of unity and togetherness in our communities. The world was hit with a life changing pandemic in the COVID-19 virus that left us all feeling isolated and alone, both physically and emotionally. This virus paused our lives from virtually everything—from family and friends, to work and entertainment. Just as the world was starting to see the light, we were faced with a different type of crisis that many have been fighting for years, one that left us needing unity and togetherness even more. The black community has been targeted and it is now time we stand in solidarity behind them.

The entertainment world is what we know best and we would be remiss not to acknowledge the enormous contributions of black people in the entertainment industry. From talented athletes, actors and musicians, to loyal fans and supporters, those in the entertainment community enhance all of our lives. The events of the past weeks prove that it is more important than ever to support movements of racial justice.

VIPTIX is proud to partner with Music Is Art to support and benefit the Arts & Music initiative. Music is Art is dedicated to creating opportunities to fuel the unifying power of music in our region.

Our hope is not to return to life as it was, but to be a part of the change toward a better world.

We’re all in this together.
